Landscape 3D parametric surface model showing bezier and spline curves used in geometric design

According to Wikipedia, geometrical design is a branch of computational geometry concerned with the construction and representation of free form curves, surfaces, and volumes. It is closely related to geometric modeling. The core problems involve curve and surface modeling and representation. Geometrical design focuses on the construction and manipulation of curves and surfaces defined by a set of points using polynomial, rational, piecewise polynomial, or piecewise rational methods. The primary tools include parametric curves and parametric surfaces such as Bézier curves and spline curves and surfaces. An important non parametric approach is the level set method.

Application areas include shipbuilding, aircraft design, automotive industries, and architectural design. With the advancement of computing technology, complex product shapes are now routinely developed using sophisticated geometric design techniques.
