Utility workers performing sanitary sewer manhole maintenance for municipal wastewater system

Plano’s sanitary sewer system is designed to protect public health and support long term growth by following the City of Plano Utility Design Standards, which require gravity sewer lines with adequate slope, proper manhole spacing for maintenance access, and sufficient capacity to handle peak flows. To reduce the risk of sanitary sewer overflows, sewer systems are planned and maintained in accordance with EPA wastewater system design principles, while future demands are addressed through the City’s Capital Improvement Program, which evaluates population growth and infrastructure needs to ensure reliable service over time.
