Concrete sidewalk running through a tree-lined residential neighborhood beside a quiet street

A sidewalk (also called pavement or footpath) is a path built next to a road for people to walk on.

It is usually made from materials like concrete, bricks, stones, or asphalt. Sidewalks are normally raised slightly above the road and separated from it by a curb for safety.

In many places, there may also be a strip of grass or plants between the sidewalk and the road, or between the road and nearby buildings or land. (Wikipedia)
